A 45-year-old drug dealer from Rahmaniya Road, Eravur, was arrested on Friday night (November 7th) and remanded to the Batticaloa Prison after being produced before the Eravur Magistrate on Saturday.
Once in prison, the suspect confessed to prison officials that he had swallowed 28 small packets of heroin when he was initially arrested, information he had withheld from the police.
Following this confession, prison authorities made the suspect defecate in the prison latrine, leading to the recovery of 1960 milligrams of heroin contained in the 28 packets.
The suspect, who has been involved in drug dealing for a long time, was produced before the court again regarding the recovered drugs and was ordered to be further remanded for 14 days. Eravur Police are conducting further investigations.
