யாழ்ப்பாணம், வளலாய் பகுதியில் உள்ள கடற்கரையில் நேற்று (17) பௌத்த மதத்துடன் தொடர்புடைய சிலை ஒன்று கரையொதுங்கியுள்ளது.
கரையொதுங்கிய சிலையின் கைகள் சேதமடைந்த நிலையில் காணப்படுவதால், இது வேறு நாட்டவர்கள் தங்கள் நாட்டு கடலில் போட்ட சிலையாக இருக்கலாம் எனச் சந்தேகிக்கப்படுகிறது.
மியான்மார் தொடர்பு சந்தேகம்
மியான்மார் நாட்டிலும் பௌத்தர்கள் வாழ்கின்றனர். அங்கு உயிரிழந்தவர்களின் நினைவாகக் கடலில் விடப்படும் மூங்கிலிலான தொப்பங்கள் (உருவ அமைப்புகள்) கடந்த காலங்களில் வடமராட்சிப் பகுதிகளில் கரையொதுங்கியுள்ளன.
அதேபோல், சேதமடைந்த இந்தக் கல் சிலை கடலில் விடப்பட்ட நிலையில், அது வளலாய் பகுதியில் கரையொதுங்கியிருக்கலாம் என நம்பப்படுகிறது.
குறித்த சிலை தற்போது வளலாய் கடற்றொழிலாளர் சங்கக் கட்டடத்தில் பாதுகாப்பாக வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

A Buddhist-related statue washed ashore on the Valaalai beach in Jaffna yesterday (17). Since the statue’s hands are damaged, it is suspected that it might have been dumped into the sea by people from another country. This suspicion is partly based on past instances where bamboo effigies, released in Myanmar in memory of the deceased, have washed up on the coast of Vadamarachchi. The damaged statue is currently being securely held at the Valaalai Fishermen’s Cooperative Society building, and the Achchuveli Police have been informed and are conducting investigations.
