2024 ஆம் ஆண்டில் கனடாவின் ஒட்டாவாவில் உள்ள ஒரு வீட்டில், இலங்கைக் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் உட்பட 6 பேரைக் கொலை செய்த சம்பவத்தின் குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கு உள்ளான இலங்கையைச் சேர்ந்த இளைஞருக்கு ஆயுள் தண்டனை விதித்து அந்நாட்டு நீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளது.
குறித்த உத்தரவைப் பிறப்பித்த நீதிமன்றம், தண்டனையில் எவ்விதமான தளர்வையும் பெறுவதற்கோ அல்லது விடுதலை பெறுவதற்கோ அவர் 25 ஆண்டுகள் கட்டாயமாகச் சிறைத் தண்டனையை அனுபவிக்க வேண்டும் என்று அறிவித்துள்ளது.
இவ்வாறு குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டவர் ஃபெப்ரியோ டி சொய்சா (Febrio De-Zoysa) என்ற இளைஞர் ஆவார்.
கனடாவில் கல்வி கற்று வந்த அவர், இந்தக் குற்றத்தைச் செய்தபோது 19 வயதைக் கடந்து இருந்தார்.
அவர் மீது நான்கு முதலாம் நிலை கொலைக் குற்றச்சாட்டுகளும், இரண்டு இரண்டாம் நிலைக் கொலைக் குற்றச்சாட்டுகளும், ஒரு கொலை முயற்சி குற்றச்சாட்டுகளும் சுமத்தப்பட்டிருந்தன. அவர் அக்குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் அனைத்தையும் ஒப்புக்கொண்டார்.
இந்தக் கொலையில் ஒரே குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த தாயான தர்ஷனி பண்டாரநாயக்க (35), அவரது குழந்தைகள் இனூக்க விக்கிரமசிங்க (07), அஷ்வினி விக்கிரமசிங்க (04), ரினியானா விக்கிரமசிங்க (02), கெலி விக்கிரமசிங்க (02 மாதம்) ஆகியோர் கொல்லப்பட்டனர்.
மேலும், அந்த வீட்டில் இருந்த காமினி அமரகோன் (40) என்ற நபரும் கொல்லப்பட்டதுடன், குழந்தைகளின் தந்தை படுகாயமடைந்தார்.
A court in Canada has sentenced a Sri Lankan youth to life imprisonment for the 2024 murder of six people, including a Sri Lankan family, in a home in Ottawa.
The court ordered that the accused, identified as Febrio De-Zoysa, must serve a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison before being eligible for parole or release. De-Zoysa, who was studying in Canada, was over 19 years old when he committed the crime.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and one count of attempted murder.
The victims from the same family killed in the attack were the mother, Darshani Bandara Nayaka (35), and her children: Inuka Wickramasinghe (7), Ashvini Wickramasinghe (4), Rinnyana Wickramasinghe (2), and Kelly Wickramasinghe (2 months). Gamini Amarakone (40), a person also staying at the home, was killed, and the children’s father was severely injured.
