இலங்கையில் 2025ஆம் ஆண்டு இதுவரை, இணையவழி ஏமாற்றுதல் மூலம் 28 சிறுவர்களும் 118 பெண்களும் பாலியல் துஷ்பிரயோகத்திற்கு ஆளாகியுள்ளதாக இலங்கை பொலிஸ் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
இதேவேளையில், 2024ஆம் ஆண்டில், 18 வயதுக்குட்பட்ட 15 சிறுவர்கள் இணையவழி மூலம் பாலியல் துஷ்பிரயோகத்திற்கு ஆளானதாக பொலிஸ் ஊடகப் பேச்சாளர், உதவிப் பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் எஃப்.யு. வுட்லர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அதே ஆண்டில், 375 பெண்கள் இத்தகைய துஷ்பிரயோகத்திற்கு ஆளாகியுள்ளதாகவும் அவர் கூறினார்.
இருப்பினும், இவ்வாறான சம்பவங்களில் ஈடுபட்ட 114 நபர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சட்டத்தின் முன் நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும் பொலிஸ் ஊடகப் பேச்சாளர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.
The Sri Lankan Police have reported a concerning increase in online sexual abuse cases. So far in 2025, 28 children and 118 women have been victims of sexual abuse through online deception. This is a rise compared to 2024, when 15 children under 18 and 375 women were subjected to similar abuse. Despite the growing numbers, police media spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Woodler, stated that 114 individuals involved in these incidents have been arrested and brought before the law.
